Flash Fiction
In the heart of a dying star, where light twisted into impossible shapes, a lone light dancer
named Mirai floated in her ship, the Echoist. She had been sent on a mission to gather data on
the star’s final moments, a spectacle that no human had ever witnessed to any extent. That was
her job, as a light dancer.
As the star began to collapse, Mirai watched the swirling gases ignite in a supernova, colors
bursting forth like the universe's last breath. But amidst the chaos, a pulse of energy struck her
ship, sending her tumbling into the darkness. Alarms blared, but Mirai’s gaze was drawn to a
shimmer just outside her viewport.
Emerging from the shadows was a creature unlike anything she had seen—a being of pure
light, its form shifting like mercury. It seemed to communicate without words, waves of emotion
washing over Mirai. Curiosity, fear, hope—each feeling a thread binding them across the void.
In that moment, as the star erupted behind her, Mirai understood. This creature was a guardian
of the cosmos, born from the remnants of stars long gone. It extended a tendril toward her,
offering connection. She reached out, fingers brushing against the light, and in that instant, she
felt the histories of worlds, the whispers of galaxies, and the pulse of life that thrived in the
universe.
As the Echoist’s systems failed, Mirai realized she wouldn’t escape. But she was not afraid. The
light wrapped around her, pulling her into its embrace, and she became part of the cosmos—a
flicker in the vast tapestry of existence.
In the aftermath of the supernova, only silence remained, but somewhere in the depths of
space, a new star began to form, cradling the essence of a soul who dared to dance with the
light.
